Appointments to the following advisory groups, committees and external organizations are open to faculty and staff. Information about each appointment, including qualifications and time commitments, is provided. Unless otherwise indicated, one nominee will be appointed to each position.

ADEA Advisory Committee for Innovation, Clinical Education and Public Health (ADEA ACICEPH)

Position Description: The ADEA Advisory Committee for Innovation, Clinical Education and Public Health (ADEA ACICEPH) provides guidance and advice to the ADEA Board of Directors and ADEA staff on oral health matters related to innovative approaches to clinical education and public health. The Committee considers three areas—vision, policy and programming—and related resources needed to support these areas and contribute to ADEA’s overall mission. ADEA ACICEPH also supports ADEA in advancing its goals of fostering new thinking, enhancing oral health clinical education and promoting public health perspectives that will drive policy, initiatives and approaches supporting the future of oral health education.

Who Is Eligible:

  • Admissions and financial aid officers
  • Deans
  • Faculty and staff
  • Program directors
  • Senior administrators
  • Students, residents and fellows

Eligibility Criteria:

  • All applicants must be affiliated with an ADEA Member Institution and have active individual ADEA memberships.
  • Faculty and staff should have an interest in bioinformatics, technology and health informatics
  • Must have expertise in innovation, clinical education and public health with experience in the following areas:
  • Health care innovation,
  • Medical technology,
  • Clinical education,
  • Curriculum development,
  • Public health policy,
  • Community health initiatives,
  • Allied dental education,
  • Clinical education and
  • Chair-side technologies.

Time Commitment:

Preparation plus quarterly meetings (in-person and virtual), including a September in-person meeting

Length of Service/Term Start Date:

Three-year term, starting March 2027, with possibility of reappointment for up to three additional years

ADEA Centralized Application for Advanced Placement for International Dentists Advisory Group (ADEA CAAPID)

Position Description: The ADEA Centralized Application for Advanced Placement for International Dentists Advisory Group (ADEA CAAPID®) supports ADEA staff in reviewing and revising questions in the application and suggesting changes for data in WebAdMIT and other essential items related to the application service. Advisory Group members review enhancements annually for implementation and discuss resources to help both programs and applicants.

Who Is Eligible: 

  • Admissions and financial aid officers
  • Faculty and staff
  • Program directors
  • Students, residents and fellows

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Admissions officers must have responsibility for coordinating admissions.
  • Faculty and staff nominees must represent an ADEA CAAPID participating program.
  • Program directors must have advanced standing program directors.

Time Commitment:

  • Two meeting days per year (occurring at the ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition and the ADEA Fall Meetings)
  • Bi-monthly Advisory Group meetings (virtual, one hour each)
  • Quarterly ADEA CAAPID Town Hall meetings (virtual)

Length of Term: 

Three years

ADEA Continuing Education Advisory Committee (ADEA CEAC)

Position Description: The ADEA Continuing Education Advisory Committee (ADEA CEAC) provides independent peer review and strategic guidance for ADEA’s Continuing Education (CE) program, in accordance with American Dental Association Continuing Education Recognition Program (ADA CERP) standards. ADEA is an ADA CERP-recognized provider.The ADEA CEAC’s responsibilities include periodic review and refinement of CE goals, evaluation of program effectiveness, input on program objectives and content, identification of educational needs beyond provider perspectives and oversight to prevent and manage conflicts of interest. The Committee also evaluates and implements safeguards to address potential commercial conflicts of interest involving Continuing Dental Education activity planners, course directors and instructors or authors.

Who Is Eligible:

Members from ADEA Member Institutions who represent:

  • Two (2) from predoctoral education (general dentists). 
  • Two (2) from predoctoral education (any discipline). 
  • Two (2) from Advanced Dental Education (dentists) 

Eligibility Criteria:

A majority of the advisory committee must be dentists who are independent from other responsibilities within ADEA. The advisory committee should include objective representatives of the intended audience, including the members of the dental team for which the courses are offered.

Time Commitment:

One in-person meeting day per year (typically occurring in the fall) plus three to four quarterly virtual meetings throughout the year.

Length of Service and Term Start Date:

Three-year non-renewable beginning in March 2027

  • Staggered terms will be needed for the initial cohort, which may extend some terms to accommodate the need for staggered term terminations.

ADEA Dental Hygiene Centralized Application Service Advisory Group (ADEA DHCAS)

Position Description: The ADEA DHCAS® (ADEA Dental Hygiene Centralized Application Service) Advisory Group supports ADEA staff in reviewing and revising questions in the application and suggesting changes for data in WebAdMIT and other essential items related to the application service. Advisory Group members review enhancements annually for implementation and discuss resources to help both programs and applicants.

Who Is Eligible:

  • Program directors
  • Faculty and staff responsible for coordinating dental hygiene admissions.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Faculty and staff must represent an ADEA DHCAS participating program.
  • Must be a dental hygiene program director.

Time Commitment:

  • Up to one meeting day per year, plus preparation
  • Up to four conference calls per year, plus preparation

Length of term: Three years

Term start date: March 2027

Position Type: Appointment—requires approval by the ADEA House of Delegates in March 2027

ADEA Journal of Dental Education Editorial Review Board (JDE ERB)

Position Description: The ADEA Journal of Dental Education Editorial Review Board (ADEA JDE ERB) advises JDE editors and staff on best practices and emerging trends in academic dentistry and scholarly publishing, act as advocates for the JDE at their own institutions and in the dental education community and remain active JDE contributors and reviewers throughout their term. ADEA JDE ERB members are expected to review several article submissions annually. 

Who Is Eligible:

  • Admissions
  • Program directors
  • Students, residents and fellows

Eligibility Criteria:

  • All applicants must be affiliated with an ADEA Member Institution and have active individual ADEA memberships.
  • Students who are currently first- or second-year dental students and who are dental hygiene students are eligible.

Time Commitment:

One in-person meeting each year during the ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition and up to two teleconferences per year

Length of Service and Term Start Date:

  • Three-year term, starting in March 2027
  • Students: Two-year term, starting in March 2027

Position Type: Appointment—requires ADEA Board of Directors approval at its January meeting

ADEA Postdoctoral Application Support Service Advisory Group (ADEA PASS)

Position Description: The ADEA Postdoctoral Application Support Service Advisory Group (ADEA PASS®) supports ADEA staff in reviewing and revising the application service, suggesting changes for data in WebAdMIT and essential items related to the application service. Advisory Group members review enhancements for implementation and discuss resources for both programs and applicants.

Recommendation letters are required for all applicants, except deans and program directors. Request a letter as soon as possible from your dean or program director; this step often takes the most time.

Who Is Eligible:

  • Admissions and Financial Aid officers
  • Deans
  • Faculty and staff
  • Program directors
  • Senior administrators
  • Students, residents and fellows

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must have participated in ADEA PASS.
  • Must be program director, program faculty or admissions personnel. Current dental resident or fellow who have completed the ADEA PASS application are also eligible.

Time Commitment:

One in-person meeting day per year (occurring at the ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition) plus periodic virtual meetings throughout the year.

Length of Service and Term Start Date:

  • Three-year term, starting in March 2027
  • Students: One-year term, starting in March 2027—renewable

ADEA Policy and Research Advisory Committee (ADEA PRAC)

Position Description: The ADEA Policy and Research Advisory Committee (ADEA PRAC) provides insight and perspective on current and emerging issues in dental education. This insight helps ensure ADEA’s educational research agenda is aligned with topics that are important to our members. ADEA PRAC also helps inform annual, education-related survey activities and related policy research to make certain that the information collected is timely and informative. The committee seeks to balance participants among predoctoral, advanced and allied dental education.

Who Is Eligible:

  • Deans
  • Faculty and staff
  • Program directors
  • Senior administrators

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must have leadership positions in dental education (program level or school level).
  • Must have expertise in developing policies for a dental education program and/or dental school.

Time Commitment:

Preparation plus three meeting days per year, including an in-person, September meeting at the ADEA headquarters

Length of Service and Term Start Date:

Three-year term, starting in March 2027

Position Type: Appointment—requires ADEA Board of Directors approval at its January meeting
