Appointments Open to Program Directors
ADEA welcomes the nominations of advanced and allied dental education program directors for appointments to the following advisory groups and external organizations. Information about each appointment, including qualifications and time commitments, is provided. Unless otherwise indicated, one nominee will be appointed to each position. |
Position Description: The ADEA Advisory Committee for Innovation, Clinical Education and Public Health (ADEA ACICEPH) provides guidance and advice to the ADEA Board of Directors and ADEA staff on oral health matters related to innovative approaches to clinical education and public health. The Committee considers three areas—vision, policy and programming—and related resources needed to support these areas and contribute to ADEA’s overall mission. ADEA ACICEPH also supports ADEA in advancing its goals of fostering new thinking, enhancing oral health clinical education and promoting public health perspectives that will drive policy, initiatives and approaches supporting the future of oral health education.
Recommendation letters are required for all applicants, except deans and program directors. Request a letter as soon as possible from your dean or program director; this step often takes the most time.

Eligibility Criteria:
All applicants must be affiliated with an ADEA Member Institution and have an active individual ADEA membership.
Must have expertise in innovation, clinical education and public health with experience in the following areas:
- Health care innovation,
- Medical technology,
- Clinical education,
- Curriculum development,
- Public health policy,
- Community health initiatives,
- Allied dental education,
- Clinical education and
- Chair-side technologies.
Time Commitment:
Preparation plus quarterly meetings (in-person and virtual), including a September in-person meeting
Length of Service and Term Start Date:
Three-year term, starting March 2027, with possibility of reappointment for up to three additional years

ADEA Centralized Application for Advanced Placement for International Dentists Advisory Group (ADEA CAAPID®)
Position Description: The ADEA Centralized Application for Advanced Placement for International Dentists Advisory Group (ADEA CAAPID®) supports ADEA staff in reviewing and revising questions in the application and suggesting changes for data in WebAdMIT and other essential items related to the application service. Advisory Group members review enhancements annually for implementation and discuss resources to help both programs and applicants.
Who Is Eligible:
- Admissions and/or financial aid officers,
- Faculty and staff,
- Program directors and
- Dental students, residents and fellows.
Eligibility Criteria:
- All applicants must be affiliated with an ADEA Member Institution and have an active individual ADEA membership.
- Admissions officers (e.g., Director of Admissions, Associate or Assistant Dean of Admissions) who have participated in ADEA AADSAS and completed at least one admissions cycle.
- Dental students must be currently enrolled in dental school and have completed the ADEA AADSAS application.
Time Commitment:
- Two meeting days per year (occurring at the ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition and the ADEA Fall Meetings)
- Quarterly Advisory Group meetings (virtual, one hour each)
- Quarterly ADEA AADSAS Town Hall meetings (virtually)
Length of Service and Term Start Date:
- Three-year term, starting in March 2027
- Dental students: One-year term, starting in March 2027

ADEA Continuing Education Advisory Committee (ADEA CEAC)
Position Description: The ADEA Continuing Education Advisory Committee (ADEA CEAC) provides independent peer review and strategic guidance for ADEA’s Continuing Education (CE) program, in accordance with American Dental Association Continuing Education Recognition Program (ADA CERP) standards. ADEA is an ADA CERP-recognized provider.The ADEA CEAC’s responsibilities include periodic review and refinement of CE goals, evaluation of program effectiveness, input on program objectives and content, identification of educational needs beyond provider perspectives and oversight to prevent and manage conflicts of interest. The Committee also evaluates and implements safeguards to address potential commercial conflicts of interest involving Continuing Dental Education activity planners, course directors and instructors or authors.
Who Is Eligible:
Members of member institutions who represent:
- Two (2) from predoctoral education (general dentists).
- Two (2) from predoctoral education (any discipline).
- Two (2) from Advanced Dental Education (dentists)
- Two (2) from Allied Dental Education (non-dentists).
Eligibility Criteria:
A majority of the advisory committee must be dentists who are independent from other responsibilities within ADEA. The advisory committee should include objective representatives of the intended audience, including the members of the dental team for which the courses are offered.
Time Commitment:
One in-person meeting day per year (typically occurring in the fall) plus three to four quarterly virtual meetings throughout the year.
Length of Service and Term Start Date:
Three-year non-renewable beginning in March 2027
- Staggered terms will be needed for the initial cohort, which may extend some terms to accommodate the need for staggered term terminations.

ADEA Dental Hygiene Centralized Application Service Advisory Group (ADEA DHCAS®)
Position Description: The ADEA Dental Hygiene Centralized Application Service Advisory Group (ADEA DHCAS®) supports ADEA staff in reviewing and revising questions in the application and suggesting changes for data in WebAdMIT and other essential items related to the application service. Advisory Group members review enhancements annually for implementation and discuss resources to help both programs and applicants.
Who Is Eligible:
- Dental hygiene program directors and program faculty responsible for coordinating admissions.
Eligibility Criteria:
- All applicants must be affiliated with an ADEA Member Institution and have an active individual ADEA membership.
- Program directors and program faculty participating in ADEA DHCAS.
Time Commitment:
- Quarterly virtual meetings.
Length of Service and Term Start Date:
- One-to-two-year terms starting in March 2027.
- Students: One-year term, starting in March 2027 – renewable
Position Type: Appointment—requires approval by the ADEA House of Delegates in March 2027
ADEA GoDental® Advisory Group (ADEA GoDental)
Position Description: The ADEA GoDental® Advisory Group (ADEA GoDental®) develops ideas and provides support for all ADEA GoDental initiatives. Members discuss ideas for improving ADEA GoDental initiatives and predental student content, social media engagement and membership services. The Advisory Group provides the broader ADEA GoDental® community with strategic directions on how to better serve students interested in dentistry. Members may draft or review blogs, videos and forum topics to advise on the effectiveness of ADEA GoDental content.
Who Is Eligible:
- Admissions and financial aid officers
- Program directors
- Students, residents and fellows
Eligibility Criteria:
- All applicants must be affiliated with an ADEA Member Institution and have an active individual ADEA membership.
- Students who are currently first- or second-year dental students or who are allied dental students are eligible.
Time Commitment:
One in-person meeting each year during the ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition and up to two teleconferences per year
Length of Service and Term Start Date:
- Three-year term, starting in March 2027
- Students: Two-year term, starting in March 2027

ADEA Postdoctoral Application Support Service (ADEA PASS)
Position Description: The ADEA PASS® (ADEA Postdoctoral Application Support Service) Advisory Group supports ADEA staff in reviewing and revising the application, suggesting changes for data in WebAdMIT, and the essential items related to the application service. Advisory Group members review enhancements annually for implementation and discuss resources to help both programs and applicants.
Recommendation letters are required for all applicants, except deans and program directors. Request a letter as soon as possible from your dean or program director; this step often takes the most time.
Who Is Eligible:
- Advanced dental education program directors,
- Staff responsible for coordinating admissions and
- Deans/staff responsible for Institution Education Form (IEF).
Eligibility Criteria:
- All applicants must be affiliated with an ADEA Member Institution and have an active individual ADEA membership.
- Must be program director, program faculty or admissions personnel participating in ADEA PASS.
- Must have completed at least one application cycle.
Time Commitment:
One in-person meeting day per year (occurring at the ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition) plus periodic virtual meetings throughout the year.
Length of Service and Term Start Date:
- Three-year term.
Position Type: Appointment—requires ADEA Board of Directors approval at its January meeting.
ADEA Policy and Research Advisory Committee (ADEA PRAC)
Position Description: The ADEA Policy and Research Advisory Committee (ADEA PRAC) provides insight and perspective on current and emerging issues in dental education. This insight helps ensure ADEA’s educational research agenda is aligned with topics that are important to our members. ADEA PRAC also helps inform annual, education-related survey activities and related policy research to make certain that the information collected is timely and informative. The committee seeks to balance participants among predoctoral, advanced and allied dental education.
Who Is Eligible:
- Deans
- Faculty and staff
- Program directors
- Senior administrators
Eligibility Criteria:
- All applicants must be affiliated with an ADEA Member Institution and have an active individual ADEA membership.
- Must have leadership positions in dental education (program level or school level).
- Must have expertise in developing policies for a dental education program and/or dental school.
Time Commitment:
Preparation plus three meeting days per year, including an in-person, September meeting at the ADEA headquarters

Three-year term, starting in March 2027

ADEA Student Financial Assistance Advisory Committee (ADEA SFAAC)
Position Description: The ADEA Student Financial Assistance Advisory Committee (ADEA SFAAC) provides recommendations for resources and initiatives to advise ADEA member constituents on matters regarding student financial aid—including Title IV and Title VII and other programs—and effective counseling regarding responsible borrowing and repayment.

- Senior Administrators and

Eligibility Criteria:
- All applicants must be affiliated with an ADEA Member Institution and have an active individual ADEA membership.
Individual applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
- A currently enrolled dental student, resident or fellow able to serve a one-year term beginning in September.
Time Commitment:
- One meeting per year and two conference calls. The meeting format may be in-person, virtual or hybrid.
Length of Service and Term Start Date:
Students: One-year term, starting in September 2027

Commission on Dental Accreditation Commission Members (CODA Commissioner)
Position Description: Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) members participate in Commission and Standing Committee meetings and review reports concerning the development of accreditation standards and other education issues related to accreditation matters, including the accreditation of programs. Commissioners must be able to evaluate education programs objectively, in terms of such broad areas as curriculum, faculty, facilities, student evaluation and outcomes assessment.

Eligibility Criteria:
- All applicants must be affiliated with an ADEA Member Institution and have an active individual ADEA membership.
- All applicants must be current American Dental Association (ADA) members.
- Applicants must have expertise in defined areas. Knowledge of accreditation process (e.g., service on accreditation committee, site visit team, publications). Recommendation from dean of home institution is required for consideration. The Commissioner must have a stated willingness to comply with all Commission policies and procedures (e.g., Agreement of Confidentiality; Conflict of Interest Policy; Operational Guidelines; Simultaneous Service; HIPAA Training, Licensure Attestation, Professional Conduct Policy and Prohibition Against Harassment.) During the term of service as a Commissioner, this individual may not independently consult with a CODA-accredited program or a program applying for CODA accreditation. The Commissioner may not serve on a site visitor team during their term.
- Faculty and staff includes academic deans, department chairs and senior faculty.
Time Commitment:
This requires a significant time commitment: 10-20 days per year for activities, including training comprehensive review of print and electronically delivered materials and travel to CODA office.
Length of Service and Term Start Date:
A one four-year term with six-month training, then appointment begins at winter Commission meeting

Commission on Dental Accreditation Site Visitor (CODA Site Visitor)

Position Description: The Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) uses site visitors with education and practice expertise in the discipline or areas being evaluated to conduct its accreditation program. Site Visitors must be able to evaluate education programs objectively, in terms of such broad areas as curriculum, faculty, facilities, student evaluation and outcomes assessment.

Time Commitment:
Requires preparation, reading of site visit documents, attendance at site visits for up to three consecutive days per site visit.
Length of Service and Term Start Date:
One year with reappointment for up to six consecutive years after appointment by CODA and completion of mandatory training.
Council on Dental Education and Licensure (CDEL)
Position Description: The Council on Dental Education and Licensure (CDEL) members participate in Council and Committee meetings and review reports concerning policy regarding dental, advanced dental and allied dental education issues, as well as continuing dental education, career guidance matters, specialty and general dentistry, dental sedation and general anesthesia and licensure-related topics.

Eligibility Criteria:
- All applicants must be affiliated with an ADEA Member Institution and have an active individual ADEA membership.
- All applicants must be current American Dental Association (ADA) members.
- Applicants must have significant experience in academic dentistry.
- Applicants must have a past volunteer leadership position in ADEA (i.e., service on a council).
- A recommendation from dean of home institution is required for consideration.
- Faculty and staff includes academic deans, department chairs and senior faculty
Time Commitment:
Attendance at Council and Committee meetings, reading reports and preparation for meetings
Length of Service and Term Start Date:
Four-year term, starting at the close of the next ADA Annual Session
Position Type: Appointment—requires approval by the ADEA House of Delegates in March 2027
Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE)
Position Description: The Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) members serve the purpose of the Joint Commission:
- To provide and conduct examinations for all purposes, including assisting state boards of dentistry and dental examiners in exercising their authority to determine qualifications of dentists and other oral health care professionals seeking certification and/or licensure to practice in any state or other jurisdiction of the United States;
- To make rules and regulations for the conduct of examinations and the certification of successful candidates;
- To serve as a resource for dentists and oral health care professionals concerning the development of examinations; and
- To provide a means for a candidate to appeal an adverse decision of the Commission.

Eligibility Criteria:
- All applicants must be affiliated with an ADEA Member Institution and have an active individual ADEA membership.
- All applicants must be current American Dental Association (ADA) members.
- Applicants must have significant experience and leadership in oral health education and knowledge of licensure processes, examination development and policy.
Time Commitment:
Attendance at annual meeting and committees, reading reports and preparation for meetings
Length of Service and Term Start Date:
Four-year term, starting at the close of the next ADA Annual Session
